The purposeof thesestandardsis to serveas nationallyrecognizeddocuments,theĪpplicationof whichis deemedtoensurecomplianceof buildingswiththeminimumrequirementsfordesign,constructionandqualityof materialssetdownbytheNationalBuildingCode. In exerciseof thesepowersandin dischargeof itsresponsibility,theMinistryis issuingaseriesof BuildingCodeStandardsof generalapplication. TheProclamationto definethepowersanddutiesof theCentralandRegionalExecutiveOrgansof theTransitionalGovernmentof EthiopiaNo.41/1993empowerstheMinistryof WorksandUrbanDevelopmentto preparetheCountry'sBuildingCode,issueStandardsfor designandconstructionworks,andfollowupandsupervisetheimplementationof same.
